Oh, ye of little faith...

That was me... I thought our nice weather was over and that my yard work would have to wait till spring but lo and behold... along came Friday and some beautiful temps! I cleaned some windows then hauled out the lawn mower and cut the grass while picking up the leaves at the same time (with the mower). It looked so good til the wind came up that night and blew everybody elses leaves all over my lawn so that it doesn't even look like I did anything!!! It's supposed to be a few degrees above freezing for the next couple of days so I might do it all over again. Friday night we went out for supper and then to the hockey game and our team won - they're not doing great this year but they did pull it off this time. Saturday I went to the store to do my work and had  little extra because of Oct. 31st being year end but it all went quite well. Today was a quiet stay at home day so I exercised and did 3 miles on the treadmill while reading - who says I can't multitask??? I watched a movie after that and now I'm patiently waiting for the highlight of my week - DH!

Blond again

After spending 2 hours at the hairdressers I came home with blond AND straight hair! It looks so different when the hairdresser does it. I even bought a straightener because people were always complimenting me on my hair when I'd had it "done", but I was too incompetent and too impatient to make it work, lol. So I'll look like this for today and then be back to my usual look for another 6 weeks.
The weather forecast had me really hopeful for some sun and warmth (relatively speaking) but it's nearly noon and still not above the freezing mark and it's cloudy and windy too. I guess those leaves out on the lawn are going to have to stay there for a while longer (possibly spring).

Sunday

Since we didn't go to the party we were invited to last night we were here to hand out treats and a good thing too as we had a record number of trick or treaters. They were SO cute, even the older kids who were out for treats. One of those older kids even said something to me about feeling like a little kid again and I said to her "That's great!". I know some people think only "little kids" should be getting treats but I disagree. One year I wondered aloud if Kristy was getting "too old" to go out for treats, my Dad said "Let her go... don't let her grow up too fast." I thought about that and couldn't agree more. I also think that if the kids still want to go out and get candy, hopefully they're not smoking, vandalizing, or worse.
The funny thing about the treats was that because we weren't planning on being home I hadn't bought much for treats so I ended up giving away all Garth's mini bags of cheezies (about 30 bags, haha) and all his packages of skittles (his Costco purchases) as well as the candy, gum, and suckers that we had bought. I told him the cheezies had too much sodium for someone with high blood pressure anyway. It started snowing when it got dark so that's when the little visitors dwindled and then stopped.

I might as well be living in B.C.

We did get a glimpse of the sun this morning before the clouds rolled in again. It's not raining but it's so darn gloomy and dark and like I said... if I wanted to live like this I could move to B.C. Yes it's beautiful there but you've gotta get a lot of rain to grow the trees that big - which then block your view. See that's why I love the prairies, the sunshine, blue sky and wide open spaces. Well, we've still got the wide open spaces.
We're invited out to a birthday/Hallowe'en/Octoberfest party but it looks like we'll just stay home and hand out treats. Mr T. injured his neck working last week and is on some pretty strong meds so we'll miss this one. I had a birthday supper here on Thursday for my best friend. Garth barbequed ribs, one friend brought Greek Lemon potatoes, another brought 2 salads, one brought a veggie tray and I baked an angel food cake that I served with fresh strawberries. All very yummy. The party got pretty loud after the ladies got into the 2nd jug of wine (I don't touch that stuff with a ten foot pole) but the party ended relatively early nonetheless.

Procrastination pays off

That's right. I don't think I'll have to do my fall yardwork because I somehow seem to have missed fall. It's been too cold to do anything since the snow melted and now it's raining again!! I'm not really happy about it but it's beyond my control. I think procrastination is part of it but also I am too much of an optimist for my own good... I always think it's gonna stay nice and sometimes it just doesn't! I guess the condition of my yard is quite petty compared to some of the farmers who still have crops out in some pretty big fields. On the other hand maybe I'll get some housework done since I can't go outside... I'm gonna go and read for a while and think about it first though.

I'm giving up (on the weather)

I kept hoping we'd get an "Indian Summer" even though September was mostly beautiful weather. I was being greedy wishing for more I guess because it seems like it's been cloudy and gloomy forever and being used to sunshine (even in cold weather) I think I'm getting cranky. I'm blaming it on that anyway! I've been taking iron faithfully for a couple weeks ever since my bloodwork came back showing significant anemia and I'm actually feeling a bit more energy so I've finally got back to exercising and using the treadmill. I'm not walking as far as I was last spring but I'm going to gradually work up to that. We have a wedding to go to tomorrow so I have to go and dig out my dancing shoes.

Road Trip

Nothing too exciting, just went on a Costco run so Mr. T could get his shopping fix. My question is this - since we've had over a week of freezing cold temps and snow (there's still some pretty good snowbanks in some of the ditches) how the heck did our windshield become splatted with bugs on the trip home???? How cold does it have to get to kill those critters? Today was a beautiful sunny and quite warm day and tomorrow is supposed to be nice too and I don't see any snow left in the yard so I'm happy. I guess if I had to have this cold, last week being such crappy weather was a good week to have it.

I got it even though I didn't want it!!

Garth's cold that is... woke up with a sore throat and now my nose is running, yuck. We went out to the cabin today to bring in the rest of the food that we didn't want to freeze and turned off the water. We were still hoping to have a really nice day to do that but it just wasn't happening so we bit the bullet and did it in the freezing cold. I think I got a chill to make matters worse so now I'm going to have a hot cup of tea (and a tiny piece of apple pie - feed a cold, right???)

First Snow

The water in the bird bath is frozen and there was snow on the deck this morning. I picked some rosebuds yesterday and brought them in and 3 of them have already opened. There's lots more that just won't have time, sigh.  It's gonna be a chilly Thanksgiving weekend... again, haha. I sure hope we get a little warm spell before this sets in for good. We're going to my mil's for the usual feast. I wonder how my blood sugar will handle that spike?? Don't worry, I'll behave. I've actually lost my sweet tooth and if I eat too much of something really sweet I don't even like it!! Who ever thought that would happen? Not me.

How does Jamaica sound????

Sounds good to me! That's where our friends have suggested we go for a little winter vacation this year and I think it sounds like a heck of an idea. This would happen in January by which time I should be totally recovered from the "procedure" I'm having in November. The iron levels in my blood should be up and I'll be (as my Mom says) full of pee and vinegar! (I think that's good, right?) I finally got back on the treadmill today even though I'm still running on low batteries. I just did 1 mile, starting out slow. All my stuff is at the accountants so our year end should be done soon so I can breathe easier now that my part is done. The bad news is that the end of this month is year end at the store!! OH, well, I keep that work more up to date so not such a big deal there. We seem to have permanent clouds and cool weather moved in here and its' starting to bug me. Hopefully the sun will peak out again soon. Frost warnings for tonight, brrr. Yah, Jamaica sounds good!
